How does anything new happen unless it is with a change in attitude. Think about anything you have created or changed in your life – wasn’t a change in attitude a part of that success?

Whether you want to exercise more often, lose weight, manage your time better, or simply be happier in your work, first look at your attitude. Remember the way that our perception (Window on the World) works is that we:

  • Make up our reality (some see work as a “job” some see it as a calling)
  • Forget we made it up (“I must do this and it does not make me happy!”)
  • Act as if it is true (“I can’t wait until retirement, then I can really live!”)
  • Look for evidence to prove we are right (“No one like that can be trusted”).

Dr. Martin Selligman, a pioneer in positive psychology, has found that the most effective way to change attitude is with arguable evidence. You need to convince yourself that a different attitude is not only better, but there is evidence to support it.

So if you if your find yourself wanting to exercise more, but you know you procrastinate, use evidence: remind yourself of a recent time you kept a goal and how that created success for you. For example, you wanted to read this article to the end…and you did!
